Fact or myth: Did the Italians help TMS to finish part IV?

I'm current doing some research related to Lupin and while I don't need confirmation on this, I'm still curious to know.

I have heard some rumours online that TSM had spent a lot of money on Part 4 and that they got help from the Italians (perhaps the Italian Government?) to finish the series. The only place I can find that talks about this is the one retrospective article (link), but even the author seems unsure of this. I figure that if it is true, there would at least be a animenewnetwork article about it, but it's really hard to google this. Does anybody who has been in this fandom longer than me know if there is any merit to this?

I can't speak to Part 4 specifically. In the US they would probably list that kind of sponsorship in the credits. It's not outlandish to imagine that a part of a government's tourism budget might go towards a movie/TV shows advertising their country.

It happens plenty, in the US especially for Las Vegas. Places that gain significant revenue from tourism, can definitely consider investing in a showcase like that as a way to get potential future tourism.

That being said I have no information on if this was a factor in Part 4 or not. What seems most likely to me if it IS true is the idea that they might have offered some amount of sponsorship in exchange for getting the show having connections to Italian culture, art, recognizable locations etc? I doubt they paid in a majority percentage of the production, probably just a piece of the pie.

Also, I understood what you meant so it's not a big issue, but it's TMS rather than TSM GBMamo

That's dyslexia for you lol.
Interesting, I honestly really wanna know for sure, cause it wouldn't be the first time TMS overspent on a project (*cough* Little Nemo *cough*)
Which speaking of which, when I was researching stuff, I saw the quote that Miyazaki supposable said that it was "the worst moment of his life" working on Little Nemo. The Wikipedia articles source on this? A guy's blog. There may be some truth thatg Miyazaki didn't like working on the film, but were this quote comes from, I have no idea.

Hello! I was able to trace back my post regarding this on Tumblr, from July 2015. I was able to find a screen shot from the newspaper article from the time, which announces the deal. Sadly, the information is a tad vague, and I do not have a link to the original newspaper / source from where this came.

The show was announced at MIPCOM in France during October 2014, and I've been back through some of the original announcements. I can't see any mention of Italy funding it in the articles - only that the show was to come to Italy first. The newspaper article below mentions that Silvio Carini of TV network "Boing" helped "produce" the show, though, which may give something to go on.

Hopefully the information still helps!

PS. It was quite fun to go back through some old posts, and read our speculation from the time!

Thank you so much! :lupdance: Anything bits of info helps, especially since just googling Lupin Italy only leads to talks about the series itself.
