Usually the first scene is a big fun chase with Zenigata! I have to say I really love the opening scene of Bye Bye Lady Liberty! I love Lupin showing up at the ICPO, running up to the roof etc.

Also the opening scene of Mamo is incredibly striking, it really feels compelling as a mystery!

Warning that this thread will be spoiling a little bit about probably multiple more Lupin movies!

It's a tie between Alcatraz connection and Prison of the Past. Alcatraz connection because it's just bonkers (and the animation is about 5 times better than the rest of the movie for no reason and it's great) and Prison of the Past because the action is just genius and every character gets a moment to shine.

Also, despite the fact that I don't really like The Last Job all that much, I do recall enjoying the opening a lot.

Alcatraz Connection opener is just fantastic. There's one of the amnesia specials, I can't remember if it's Columbus Files or Sweet Lost Night, that burned their whole ten minutes of Goro Naya on a Zenigata chase at the beginning and that one's pretty rocking too. As far as opening *credits* (which is sometimes the same as the opening scene but not always), I have to say The First wins hands down.

Sweet Lost Night's opening chase is one of my top favorites even if the special itself isn't LOL
Ridiculous cartoonish shenanigans, fun as hell animation at points and a great back and forth between Zeni and Lupin.

I gotta agree Alcatraz's opening scene animation is also UNFAIRLY good (and also I'm partial to that version of the opening credits theme with the English lyrics hahah)

Alcatraz's opening is really fun (though granted I still need to sit down and actually watch that one) but the first one that came to my mind was the Nostradamus opening. Watching Lupin and Jigen drive around Rio in their not-Fiat and wreak havoc is just pure fun!

Mystery of Mamo has my favourite opening scene; the typewritten report about Lupin III's supposed capture and demise, leading to what turns out to be a walk up the stairs to the gallows. Then Zenigata at his most bloodthirsty, stumbling down the stairs and shoving a stake right through a vampiric "Lupin"... then KaBoom! Lupin's alive! Was he ever dead? It's a great way to open the film, and gets you thinking right away

That is true. Mamo's opening is high art.

Cagliostro (including the opening credits), Alcatraz and Nostradamus are huge favs! If I had to pick one probably Alcatraz since it features all of the gang and is just so fun and lively (plus the song is a bop 🥰 )

Cagliostro will always have my heart for the very romantic road trip opening, but may I suggest Voyage To Danger? It's not as animated as Alcatraz and Sweet Lost Night but it feels extremely Lupin to me. Getting the gang together again to save Zeni? It just gets me every time!

The Cagliostro road trip is definitely a favorite, but I will also always have a soft spot for The First, because screenshots of that opener convinced me to watch anything Lupin.

Music-wise, Goodbye Partner's theme arrangement is beautiful, and Seven Days Rhapsody's whole opening segment cracks me up every time.

A shout-out, too, to the Koike movies. "Träumerei" is gorgeous and the animation is too, all in a nice short little package.
