It struck me that no one has mentioned this film, and although YES IT'S OLD, STOP RUNNING AWAY I think there are elements of it that would appeal to Lupin fans here.
John Robie, "The Cat", is a retired cat burglar living the good life in the south of France. Suddenly, a copycat appears - mimicking his methods, and stealing jewels from wealthy people along the Riviera. The police come for Robie, and Robie has to go on the run. If someone knows his methods, they must somehow be connected to his time in the Resistance against the Nazis during the war.
"I haven't stolen a piece of jewelry in 15 years!"
"You don't have to spend every day of your life proving your honesty, but I do."
Reasons you might like the film:
* Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, BOTH of whom were pretty easy on the eyes
* Thief posing as an innocent businessman to get close to a mark (as Robie tries to figure out who the copycat might go for)
* Directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock
* Stunning scenery in the south of France
Reasons not to:
* There are unfortunately no complicated heists, and the suspense is not as strong as it could have been. On the other hand, maybe that's counterbalanced by the romance between our two leads.
It's still a great looking film and a fun time.
The police coming for Robie:
Could some of the visuals been used as a reference for Cagliostro? I don't know.
It and similar films also inspired Once A Thief (1991), a John Woo film which is also worth watching, but... another time.
