To all writers of Lupin III, you are invited

Hello again,

I was reading my collection of Arsene Lupin when I noticed that my two favorite books are Gentleman Burglar, and The Confessions of Arsene Lupin. These books are comprised of several episodic stories and heists from the world of Arsene Lupin, and they are pretty good. I would say the stories bite-sized nature lend themselves better to the nature of Lupin rather than the more novel stylized books (I am just starting The Crystal Stopper so we will see whether or not that opinion changes). So, I had a thought, what if I made a google doc where people can put their Lupin III Short Stories/Heists, and I can then compile it into one mini book. The fanfics of Lupin we got on the club are already awesome so to have this culmination of the club's work in one tome would be really cool. On the really unlikely chance I get a lot of submissions I will just make two books.

Rules and Instructions:

How to: I will link a google doc open your own personal tab (that bit's important) and put your username and working title for the story. This is your drafting area if you want to write the draft for your story elsewhere and then submit the final project in the doc that's also cool. When your story is complete message me on here and I will add it to the final product. Any questions you have can also be sent to me obviously. Two side notes. First, I am neither an experienced nor good writer so any advice I give if asked for should be taken with a grain of salt. Second if your shy about drafts then make your own docs before the final submission because I will be looking at any submissions I get out of curiosity.

Rules

1: Don't kill Lupin? I mean if you do I guess it'll just be ignored?

2: Canon/Continuity never heard of it. Just cause it's one book doesn't mean the stories have to be connected. If you and someone else want to write connected stories or if you have multiple submissions, you want to tie together let me know and I'll put them in order.

3: Manga? I mean if you want to draw something I guess I could work it in to the final product, but this is trying to emulate the original books so keep that in mind. If you do though make it a full story.

4: Submissions. Call me pessimistic but I doubt I am going to be flooded with submissions so feel free to put more than one. If the entire thing becomes just yours though I'll probably separate your stories from the other ones and make a small compilation book for you.

5: NSFW. Please avoid putting anything NSFW in this. I am fine with implications as long as it's nothing explicit be it in word, or image. On that note, tone isn't something I really care about if anything I might put the more lighthearted stories next to the darkest ones just for the fun of the tonal whiplash. But again, nothing TOO explicit.

Conclusion: I touched on before how I doubt there will be lot but that isn't really the point anyway. This is more about putting the combined work of this great community into one thing we can all enjoy. You know where to find me with questions, suggestions, or possible titles for the finished product. Without further ado have at it, Lupin III Club.

PS: Put at the top of your tab whether or not you want/are open to advice from everyone else. That way it becomes a truly collaborative effort and even those who don't want to write their own story can contribute.

PPS: Put what color jacket Lupin is wearing. Feel free to make your own designs for the characters but if your writing, make sure to add some nice imagery for our mental pictures.

I did it. I got a late night realisation for my first story.

So I really really like detective novels and some of my favorites are the japanese ones. There are two main types the original golden age Honkaku and the more modern Shin Honkaku

The difference is the older ones are much more Agatha Christie except they're basically impossible to solve because they use really complicated murder methods that you can't really figure out using a book. Think Detective Conan in Heiji Hattori's first episode those kind of locked room mysteries. Shin Honkaku are more psychological discussing things like why murders are committed focusing on alibis, and motives, and the people affected by it. The only author I consistently read here is Keigo Higashino and his Galileo series. Back to the golden age and the great olden Japanese detectives you've probably seen in some form in Lupin III.

Kogoro Akechi
Kosuke Kindaichi
and..
Zenigata Heiji

So I thought why not write a Honkaku/Christie style story featuring Inspector Zenigata in the footsteps of his ancestor and to celebrate the OVA. Here's what I've got so far.

It will take place on some islands. There's always some island plus Immortal Bloodline is on an Island so there.

It will be a very golden age story. Suspects, tangled motives, I think i've read enough of them to figure out how to weave a similar web.

It probably won't be a novel more of a short story however we'll see it could change

Working Title: Zenigata's Vacation since a murder case is probably easier for this man than chasing Lupin for the millionth time. He's forced to go to the case by his superiors.

It will be in first person from someone else's POV. That's how great detectives usually work they show up confuse people in their eccentric investigations. Solve the case and leave.

Questions?

What kind of Zenigata will it feature. There's Koike Zenigata but he's more of a regular cop compared to most incarnations and he would be better in a noir detective story anyway. We have basic Zenigata (Part 4, Part 5, The First) Who is loud with a heart of gold and is a little bumbling sometimes. Finally there's Part 2 english dub Zenigata who is way more out of pocket.

Actual title who knows.

Literally everything else about the story. This is what happens when thoughts form unbidden at midnight they usually aren't complete

Anyway I'll leave the doc open in the very very unlikely scenario someone gets struck by an idea and decides to put it here. Eventually I might come up with enough short stories to make a whole book myself but we'll see.

Plan of action: All detective stories I've read have been novels so familiarize myself with the short story format and read the og Zenigata Heiji novels if any are translated (not optimistic)

Thanks for reading my unnecessary info dump.
