The Monkey Punch Interview Archive

I’m a guy who always loved seeing behind the scenes content, especially interviews surrounding the creators of franchises i love. So this has been a little “project” of mine of archiving/compiling interviews that feature Monkey Punch, they always feature plenty of interesting information, so i recommend reading them! Note that some of these may not be available in english, so you may need to translate them yourself.

Interview between Go Nagai and Monkey Punch (2007) (Unfortunely this is only half of it, also can't find the original video interview, is this lost media?)
so, i managed to find what i believe is a complete transcription of the video interview in japanese, here. the interview is a lot longer than what that old blog post contained! the transcription also seems to have been uploaded on 19 march, 2003. i can't understand a lot of it because the computer translation isn't great, but monkey punch and nagai appear to go on to discuss pornography and censorship, the birth of lupin and cutie honey, and their favorite european and american films and actors! i didn't have time to parse through the whole thing. there's also what appear to be still images from the video, which is neat! i'll keep looking for a video, though. i've also thrown that interview and all the rest into the internet archive for safekeeping.

if anybody were able to translate the rest of that interview it would be incredible!

This interview i found from MP's studio in 2007 is pretty good, really goes into detail about his personal life and also talks about a lecture he did at the same time.
Though it is a shame to see the state he was in while making the manga back then, when he mentions:
"At the time, I was very busy and could only sleep three days in a week. So much so that the black paint looked red."

Manga artists are sadly often still in this kind of workflow. Some do set firmer boundaries but the expectations for pace for most manga magazines are frankly inhumane.

Hi! Sharing more info on the french interview you've listed.
It was made for the IDP Home Video's DVD release of Gold of Babylon + Fuma Conspiracy, based on the copyrights (interview : March 22 2004). I don't have the DVDs myself but it seems like it. Kazuhide Tomonaga was also interviewed by the same people on March 19 2004.idp_interview_monkeyp.png

Thanks for the info, i've updated the post. I've also found the Tomonaga interview from the same dvd release.
Hello Giovanni! Just found a series of little interviews to Monkey Punch where he talks about interesting facts and how the characters were created, etc. They are from 2017 and are in Japanese, but are easy to translate. I don't know if they are already in the post, but if not, here are the links:
