References to the Manga in Koike Lupin's Concept Art

The movie announcement's gotten everyone excited huh? There's been a lot of conversation around Koike's Lupin lately, so let's dive deeper into his design!

Did you know that a lot of his concept art were referenced from original manga panels?


Koike's Lupin is primarily referenced from his design in the original 1967 manga. I've scoured through all of the chapters to try to find the references, but I've definitely missed some.

Some expressions are copied one to one, but with some obvious touch-ups by Koike. (Or it could be another staff member that did some of these, I'm really not the professional guy when it comes to anime production)


I hope seeing this encourages people to check out the manga and appreciate the art that these came from! I know I did!

I planned on trying to hunt down some of those expressions too but there was surprisingly not a lot to show aside from a couple pages (maybe I didn't have the eyes for them)Then I accidentally deleted the draft I had while exporting them so I just gave up in making another one lmao

There were however a LOT of stuff in the pilot references, and I'll be planning to post that in the future as well!
