How did you get into Lupin? Iiiiii. Think I might be the only person who actually started with part 1 episode 1
Iād known of Lupin basically forever (my first exposure to it was the references in Azumanga Daioh) but decided to finally take the plunge when my boyfriend, Sof, started watching part 1 in Latin Spanish (his first language) out of amusement that the dub changed Goemonās name to āRamĆ³nā (if you donāt know who āDon RamĆ³nā is, look it up ā a samurai sharing a name with an iconic Mexican comedy character is just such a funny contrast)ā¦ AND THEN WE BOTH UNIRONICALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SERIES (AND ESPECIALLY GOEMON) WHOOPS
When it comes to the franchise I'm a total... wolf pup, I guess would be a good term? Though Sof started watching part 1 in December 2023, I didn't start it until the following July (I'm the world's slowest media consumer and autistic with one of the narrowest interest pools you'll ever see; that's why it was such a surprise to fall so hard and fast when I did start watching), and as of posting this part 1 is the only Lupin series Iāve seen 100% of. Iām currently a quarter of the way through part 3 and working my way through part 2 very slowly because Iām intimidated by its length (thatās what she said) but trying to watch about an episode a week... and that's to say nothing of the movies/OVAs/specials and the "modern" parts!!! I know I have a lot to get through but that's the exciting part: I thought it'd be fun to hop into the fandom (especially on a good-old-fashioned forum! God knows we need more of those on today's internet), share my thoughts on the franchise as I'm forming them and provide a newcomer's perspective, if you don't mind showing the new kid (figuratively speaking) around
What do you like to do in your free time? Iām the stereotypical Art Friend. I donāt know if it counts as a āhobbyā because Iām aiming to be a professional storyboard artist or 2D animator, but I spend a lot of time drawing and experimenting with different visual media ā including cosplay, though I pretty much exclusively do closet cosplay because Iām not made of money
Most of my interests fall under the umbrella of media consumption and analysis, and one particular weird niche interest of mine (and Sofās) is dubbing: I live for comparing charactersā voices and different approaches to localisation, so of course Lupin with its āfour dubs of the same movie in English aloneā track record is right up my ally. Also, as you can tell from the thread title, I love making bad puns
Do you have any pets? not really pero Sof es mi gatito
Any Other Fandoms? Osomatsu-san (for non-shipping related reasons! I think the show is super underrated as a piece of animation and would love to meet more people who appreciate it for that), Futurama (my first true special interest as an awkward preteen and itās never really left), Jojoās Bizarre Adventure (another amazing multi-part series Sof got me into - I love all parts but Vento Aureo is peak Jojo to me), the When They Cry series (Iām currently reading Umineko episode 5) and though I havenāt really engaged with the āfandomsā because Iām intimidated by their size (I swear I donāt say these things on purpose) I love Steven Universe, Smiling Friends and The Amazing Digital Circus
External Links/Accounts: @chororine on Tumblr and Twitter; @KatSoogroo on Instagram and Bluesky (Iām thinking about making a separate Bluesky for fandom purposes? Iāll get back to you on that)
1st Language: English (tambien aprendio EspaƱol)
Happy New Year everyone!!! I hope it's filled with new friends, new experiences and new Lupin media for all
