this person could be pulling our leg but i'll risk it. Apparently at the anniversary screenings they're showing a trailer for the next installment of Lupin the IIIRD, according to a couple people on twitter lmao

Shimoji was seen interacting with a viewer here, asking if it was shown at an IMAX showing. The viewer says it was at a normal showing of Cagliostro:

looking incredible! I'm a little confused here, is it a new film with old footage in the trailer? Because it's titled "the movie" and theres new stuff as well. a bit confused with this one haha
I presume it's just showing off older footage for the sake of the trailer?
bit weird for sure but I've seen the same thing done for other "announcement" trailers

if that's the case though it would make more sense to show off Dead and Alive since that was his first work.

it does say 新作 = new production, so it should be something new? but yeah, it is kind of confusing...

They made clear its a new movie, feature length. Seems like rather than make Lupin and Zenigata short TV specials individually they're making this as a wrap up of the Koike movies. But idk, considering this is TMS maybe the movie will borrow old footage and abridge the past 3 movies. But eh maybe not.

I think it's most likely that it would only be a small portion if it was. But clearly there's at least SOME new footage to look forward to!

that's sort of what I figured! They did the same thing with the first!

One thing to note is that the trailer they've published online is different from the one shown in the Cagliostro screenings, the one shown in the screening is 3 minutes long.
So I saw! I wonder if it'll get leaked. Either way, exciting.

I've seen an interesting theory as to why the trailer reuses old footage and they're just calling it just "Lupin the IIIrd: The Movie" for now:
It's because they're actually compiling the previous 3 OVAs+This new story into a single film, rather than the entire film being a new story.

Another Italian Game tragedy incoming?

nah I honestly think it was really just for the sake of the trailer, showing old footage to the viewer so you know it's specific work of the series but keeping the new footage super low.
I think they do it as a tribute but I'm not 100% sure

Anyhow we can all judge a bit better when the real trailer pops in 2025 I guess.

That would make a lot of sense, and it'd be a good way to pull in new people who haven't seen the OVAs yet, or in a long time. It's going to be six years since Fujiko's Lie when this movie comes out.

I'd love for the whole movie to be a new thing, but if there's at least one OVA's worth of new material, I'm fine either way.

Also, that final shot of someone walking out of a destroyed building looks a lot like Albert. It's his coat and his hair colour. I never expected him to show up in this universe since Koike's stuff always felt like a love letter to the classic atmosphere, so if it's him, I'm really pleasantly surprised.

He is a character that would work really well though if it is him
funny how he seems to be everywhere now, the writers must love him.

I constantly have to think about the Goblin Slayer movie with this one, it's like 90 Mins long but 30 Minutes of it are just a recap of the show.
So if they are really gonna make a recap part I hope it will be like that.
But a fear I have is that we get the new Story and then at a random point Jigen just goes: "Man that is worse than that one time with the Sniper who made me a Gravestone!" being followed by like a 5 to 10 Minutes recap of Jigens Gravestone. And then this like 2 other times with Fujiko and Goemon. XD

But of course the best thing would be a 100% new movie.

I also love him so I understand. I honestly just think he's a great foil and element that can be worked with in a lot of situations so I wouldn't be too shocked to keep seeing him! I hope we do!
