Image that debates which people can solve the case and if they can inuit the death notes mechanics. (Again not and all be end all cus I can debate that some of these characters could solve it)
Saying that this image has walking dumbasses like Josuke and the Scooby gang. Lupin would be able to solve the Death Note case and figure out Light is Kira.
The real challenge is how the gang survives to that point, their faces and names are known everywhere and are criminals basically Light's number 1 target but heres how I believe would play out but we are stretching a bit.
At first, Light doesn't target people like the Lupin gang due to the fact they're so high profile and that killing them first thing could lead to him being caught in someway or bring attention that there is a supernatural assassin killing criminals way sooner than if he just targeted more small time criminals in Japan but when the whole Lind L Tailor thing happened, Lupin catches on to something more supernatural at play if he didn't already before, so I could see himself going into hiding for a bit and start investigating separate from L and because well, if it continues he's out of business.
Would probably be the only way this could work without the gang dying and lupin surviving and also, someone whose better at these type of stories could probably expand on this more.
I always do like the premise of Batman being apart of the Kira case and if he could solve it but the prime reason he succeeds is because Bruce's psyche is broken in the way that he sees himself as Batman and not Bruce Wayne, so Light basically wastes his time trying to figure out the identity of Batman only for it to fail.
