I'm posting this just a few days after watching Episode 5 and I'm still so happy with what an incredible job they did showing Lupin's first heist, stealing Jigen's heart. The subtle expressions, the little sound of the heartbeat, it was all perfect. I definitely wasn't expecting this, but I'm thrilled! I'm so excited for the conclusion to the story that I wanted this forum to be open and ready for it! I hope we'll all be able to gush about episode 6 here very soon!

I’m ready happy with how Zero turned out so far. It’s more part 4 like look is something I really like is back (I didn’t really care for part 5 and 6s look) my suspicion is that part 6 was hit by Covid delays and it being an anniversary year. But I’m glad zero has gotten the time it deserve.

I agree! I really like the visual style, and it seems like they really had the time to put a lot of love into it! I think Part 5 isn’t visually my favorite but at least in terms of lavish detail, I think it holds up well and stands strong near Zero in terms of thoughtful use of emotional dynamics between the characters! I can’t wait to find out how it’s going to end! If their mini series are this good it almost makes me want to say I’d be fine if they just do short seasons like this instead haha

I’m so glad that they finally went for a period piece with Zero; it’s been such a fitting choice of style. And the music’s been incredible; I really can’t wait to listen to the soundtrack by itself.

I think one of my favorite parts is seeing all the tiny little references to the manga/other parts/movies in each episode! I don't catch them all, but that makes it fun to go online and see what other people noticed. :D

i doubt that anythin n the next episode will top how much i adore the 5th episode. i dont expect disappointment aside from the fact i know it wont be better than that scene we got n the 5th.
n if it does have somethin better, m n for a wonderful surprise.

the show has been absolutely off the charts with each episode, the interactions between lupin n jigen give it such genuine life. a joy to watch with how they lay out their characters. not just random silly fun, but random silly fun with impact n drive behind it. feel so engaged with each episode. was not expectin the show to have this much oomf to it. n dont get me started on how the outro snipes me n my seat.

I'm completely astonished by how much I've loved Zero since the start. When it was announced, I was sceptical of the premise and then majorly disappointed when we got more info because it honestly didn't look like my cup of tea. But every episode has blown me away and I can't think of anything I'd change. I love the visuals and music, but most of all I'm super impressed by its writing and the way it handles all the characters. There's just so much love and understanding of how these characters work.

I'm sad it's ending, but at the same time I'm glad it's not being dragged out. Depending on how the last episode goes, maybe they can make another mini series or a movie as a follow-up. I'd also be up for something similar about what Fujiko, Goemon, and Zenigata were doing while the events of Zero were happening.

I agree totally! I was really unsure of what to expect, but it blew past all my expectations! The thing that impresses me the most is the attention to detail in interpersonal relationships and the amazing number of visual and audio callbacks to Part 1 and the manga! It's been such a treat! I would be thrilled to have another mini series or movie, but I also like this being so tight and contained. I think being short they really found their focus. And what a treat to have brought back so much playful FUN to their heists that just felt like it was missing in some of the recent stuff. It's great to see them smiling and running into danger. A lot of fun all around even if NOT for the great emotional depth!

I was expecting to be very meh about Zero but I really like it. The heartbeat sound made me go "YOOOOO" out loud LMAO. I think we've been sorely needing a piece of Lupin media that is pretty much exclusively dedicated to characters from the core cast and their relationships. One of my problems with some recent Lupin media is that the characters hardly feel like they know each other and too much time is spent with one-off NPCs, Zero is like a soothing balm for that. Good stuff

I think the fact that Zero spends so much time developing Lupin and Jigen is what makes it work, that's a fantastic point! I was also very much on the fence about it when it got released (I was very much skeptical about how interesting a story about any of the gang as children would be, even with it having an adult audience in mind) but have been more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the mini series.

I really hope that TMS learns from the positive reception it's been getting and contributes the same visual and writing effort in Lupin entries going forward! I feel like I've said this a gajillion times, too, and while I don't know anything about the production schedule for either series... Lupin Zero is what Part 6 should have been, in terms of visuals and character writing. I'm sad that we're only getting one more episode of Zero, but hopeful that it means good things for the franchise going forward! (Fingers crossed for more gay stuff because WOW. :kar_lup:)

Happy to see so many positive reactions to ZERO in this thread! 😄 Personally, I had high hopes, since the staff behind it are some of my favourite to have worked on recent Lupin. Even then, I think I've enjoyed it more than expected. It doesn't feel half baked, and has made full use of the five episodes I've seen so far. I just hope the production crew go on to work on more of the series! Super hyped for the finale tomorrow, too. 🙌

Man what an exciting finale! It was so much fun seeing Lupin go head-to-head with his Dad, they pulled out the stops with a chase sequence that felt so incredibly Monkey Punch!

And even though my headcanon for Lupin II will still stay more hard-boiled and cruel than this, I was deeply happy to see Zero Lupin getting to have such a genuinely warm and caring father. You can tell that he's not good at being a dad, but he's trying his best under the circumstances. I want that support for baby Lupin :loop_sad:

I loved this episode! My favourite part was easily Lupin's contest with his dad and how he won it, just non-stop fun with an emotional finale that made the rest of the episode feel like Lupin had earned being that badass. I wasn't entirely sold on all the stuff with Yoko and Gaucho because I feel things ended a little too "easily", like they killed off both characters in order to tie up all the loose ends around them. I prefer if characters have to live to see the aftermath of their actions.

My absolute favourite thing about the series as a whole is how character-focused it was. It took enough time to let the main characters just interact and have meaningful scenes together rather than cramming too much plot and exposition into one episode. It just really feels like the writer understood what the characters are all about and how to use references and call-backs so that if you spot them, you have that lovely "hey!" moment, but they never became distracting. I feel like the writer has improved a lot since Part 5 in that regard because I honestly felt like some emotional moments in Part 5 weren't earned before they happened, and the references were too on the nose.

I'm also really glad to see Albert come back and how silly they made his character design. I was hoping for maybe a little cameo when Zero started, and I got so much more.

Agreed completely, this take on his dad was really fresh and interesting. I'm not yet sure how I feel about Grandpa's portrayal considering that I'm too used to Lupin idolizing and respecting him in other animated titles, but I'll probably come around.

Little Albert in the government office, waiting for the bombs to fall, you could feel in that one frown how much maybe it would be okay with him if he died, out of spite, just so that the little ratfink Lupin who wouldn't even care for his(/their?) Grandad wouldn't get the inheritance. I loved that Lupin and Albert's relationship has taken on this Prodigal Son sort of vibe; Albert did everything by the book and still didn't get the title. It fits so well with him forging his own path in Part 5.

That's an angle I hadn't even considered, but it makes perfect sense and is a great take on them, wow! Got to do some thinking around that.

There was so much to love today! The chase scene with dad was superb and the talk after was hands down my favorite part of the episode. Love that Lupin got to be a little perv too XD

I also love that while dad said goodbye, both he and grandpa survived so they're still kind of "are they/aren't they alive" later. And I suppose Lupin has a chance to learn more from his grandfather if he wants - now that he's declared his own path, he can still pursue that and still access the resources his family has. If he wants to, that is - or if they're sticking with the part 5 bit where he works with/competes against Albert.

And ending on that note at school! Yeah, they had a grand adventure, saved the day, but they're still 13 year olds who skip classes to hang together on the roof. Perfect!

The Second saying “you lose things” and Lupin being like “Really? What have you lost?” And him letting go of little Lupin there. Augh my heart.

I am absolutely going to make fic with Lupin the Second being more sinister, but it was really cute to see him try to be a good Dad in his own terrible at being a Dad way.
