So! We're excited? GBJigenG

I always try to keep my expectations reasonable, and all I'm hoping for is a few good moments and fun talking to my fandom friends! I loved our Cat's Eye thread, they made me appreciate and enjoy the movie more!

i am very excited for this movie! i have always loved anime episodes focusing on jigen, so i'm pumped for a full-length action packed film about him!! i also think tetsuji tamayama is a great actor and one of the best parts of the 2014 film so i'm glad he gets to reprise his role! i'm not expecting this movie to knock my socks off, but i thought the 2014 was fun and cool despite its flaws, and i think this one will be a good time too.
i'm also super pumped for the rest of the cast, which seems to be mostly women and i love that on principle lol. the characters all look so mysterious and badass, wow the trailer was so cool!!! i'm keeping my fingers crossed that since it's releasing on amazon, that means that they pumped a boatload of money into the movie and it will be really great as a result :loop_laugh:

I'm excited to see it, but there's nothing specific that I'm expecting from it other than that I hope it's got cool action scenes. Dynamics between the main five is one of the most important elements to me in any Lupin movie, and since that will be entirely absent this time, this movie has to work a bit harder on the supporting cast to get me invested.

I have low standards because its live action and One Piece is currently the exeption than the status quo when it comes to these things. Saying that, I have one standard and thats to be better than 2014 and be faithful to Jigen's character.

I don't believe it will top Strange Psycho(I'm not spelling that) Energy because that movie is an experience where it so strange but feel sooo Lupin.

Anyways, so when are we getting a Cyberpunk 2077 mod where we replace Johnny with Jigen because I want Jigen inside me

I can't wait for this to hit the UK at like the witching hour when nobodies up. : D

I can't wait for Jigen to go "It's time to get Jiggy" and jigen all over the bad guys.

I just watched it! Here are my first thoughts (nothing spoiling the plot):

Yays:
- i relate very much to Jigen's philosophy on eating
- grandma is great; Mitsuko Kusabue is probably the best actor/actress in this movie
- cool villain who I have more thoughts on but those are bigger spoilers
- interesting new setting; I do like that the citizens of this new city aren't villified or all seen as dangerous- it's a lively place.
- couple fun action scenes
- *holds up cup of homebrew*

Nays:
- I-I'm so sorry but I don't think Tamayama acts very well. I haven't seen him in other projects and don't remember much from the live-action Lupin film. I recall he was fine in that one but that's probably because he didn't have to emote much tbh
- please cameraman hold the camera still, I can't tell what's going on in some action scenes (also very dark)
- all those big action scenes affirms for me that some things just work way better in animation- hundreds of bullets can be coming at Jigen, but he will not get hit. In anime, it's cool. In live-action, it's harder to wrap my head around. Especially since he's not crewed up in this one.

Other thoughts:
- they really want me to think Jigen is cool. I already know that but there're several shots just to show how super cool Jigen is.
- take a shot every time Jigen adjusts his hat but there's no real reason for it
- kid was fine.

is piracy an okay option if your morally opposed to amazon and their monopoly style business?
depends...

I usually go the route of buying it after I've already watched it (unless I already have the money)
Piracy is a big rabbit hole

If you're gonna do it I wouldn't comment on here about it.

Yes please no direct links or comments on any 🏴‍☠️ sources (but we don't judge lmao)

As for my review:

If I had a nickel for every time a live action Lupin spinoff has one of the main cast protecting a traumatized orphan with mutism I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

No but I thoroughly enjoyed this film! Pretty solid as a standalone action flick. LOVED the setting with its dark and gritty night market scenes contrasting the seemingly normal town during the daytime, absolutely adored Chiharu and Oto's found family at the end and Chiharu passing on her craft, the main villain was super fascinating, Jigen Cool ™, and the little references/nods to the rest of the canon here and there were delightful. On a more personal note, it was a bit cathartic that the film pointed out Oto's continued apologies as a trauma response and had Jigen react to it the way he did.

I kinda agree with se.mo on the gunfire-heavy action scenes because legit everyone armed with an automatic had Stormtrooper aim LMAO though my only other complaint I guess would be the face-changing villain worked a lot better when the shots were cuts between scenes or camera POV changes around objects, the CGI was a bit much.

I almost always just wait for free releases on tms youtube channel or rewatch the stuff that pluto tv and freevee have on for free, won't comment what I do in mine craft anymore now that I've been warned sorry lol..

is it a good starter to live action lupin films or should I just start with that one goofy ahh 1970s live action lupin III film? personally my favorite periods for the films is the 70s because animated anime films for the 70s are just so goofy ahh and random you have a plot and in the middle of the plot the animators are just like fuck it heres some random art. doesnt even have to be lupin, just finished the other day watching back to back tezuka's "Cleopatra" and "Belladonna of saddness".

70's animation (and movies in general) is a fave of mine for sure. it's one of the reasons i got into lupin in the first place. i don't think there's a bad place to start with the main 3 live action movies! psycho strat is definitely goofy and stays very true to the more comedic aspects of lupin iii! it's also great if you just love 70's outfits lol. the 2014 film i don't think is generally very well received, although i did like it haha. there is no continuity really (at least so far; i've only managed to watch about an hour of the jigen film so far) so you can watch any of them. so far though i am really loving this new movie!! the action scenes are fantastic!!

OKAY I FINISHED THE MOVIE HERE ARE SOME OF MY SCATTERED THOUGHTS ASDHDGLJDJKG;

the first thing i have to say is WOW THE ACTION SCENES WERE SO COOL!!!! i will admit that i don't really have an opinion on the quality of the movie as a whole, because i tend to just enjoy any movie that is fun or action packed and keeps me entertained. i also have a condition which causes chronic fatigue which makes it difficult to focus on movies for very long. i had to split this one up over the last couple days so my memory of the very beginning of the film is kinda fuzzy lol. at any rate it did a great job keeping me engaged for as long as possible! the plot was compelling and straightforward enough that i could follow it without thinking too much. the excessive action scenes with super cool framing was right up my alley haha. i also loved the cast and thought the actors all did a great job.
some thoughts in particular:
  • loved the cameo of the isuzu hillman minx at around the 1hour 20minute mark! looks like a '62 to me
  • this villain was everything to me and she was so fucking stylish. the shootout at the end had awesome tension
  • the animorphs style cgi shapeshift rivaled the quality of cats 2019; easily the worst part of a movie which otherwise looked pretty damn good. i literally laughed out loud it looked so ridiculous!!! sucks because i really liked that guy's character. he deserved better :loop_sad:
  • the only other issue i had with this movie is when jigen gets his smith & wesson back at the climax and uses it directly after using the custom pistsol - it makes it really easy to hear the discrepancies in the sound effects. the s&w sounded like a semi-automatic weapon to me and it's especially easy to tell since he was just using one a minute before switching to the revolver. a .357 magnum would blow out our fucking eardrums compared to a sa so i expected a noticeable difference in the shooting sounds to make the scene more impactful. that's what i get for nitpicking lmao
ANYWAY I REALLY REALLY LIKED THIS MOVIE AND I THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD WATCH IT!!! GBJigenR
