How did you get into Lupin? I watched Castle of Cagliostro and some TV specials with friends back in the 90s. Since then how much I've watched Lupin has gone up and down, but now I've watched almost all of the TV series and movies/specials and have lately been collecting soundtracks. Right now is a real upswing for me as I went back and watched all of Part 2 (I think), a lot of Part 3, and also a lot of specials I hadn't seen before, on tubi.
What do you like to do in your free time? Video games (Warframe and World of Tanks), reading, just started taiko drumming classes, baking, getting out into nature, D&D.
Do you have any pets? Yes! A bossy cat named Ella.
Any Other Fandoms? Not as much as Lupin, but I've read and watched a lot of stuff lol

welcome to the fandom what's your favorite part or special? Always fun to get some new perspectives!

Thank you Gentleman Thief!

Favorite special... probably Episode Zero. But I also really liked Prison of the Past. I respect The Mystery of Mamo for being more weird and out there but it's not my favorite.

Favorite part: I think part V. Of the recent series, very personal take, I didn't like the final villain in Part 4 AT ALL and Part 6 also kinda went off the rails, although the stuff to do with Lupin's background was interesting. I did not like the version of Sherlock Holmes in it.

In part 5, I liked the elements of technology being used against Lupin and how he turns the tables in that series.

That said though I liked the Italian setting of part 4 and I liked Rebecca as a new character, and also Nix as an antagonist.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have more older folks, and more outdoor enthusiasts! I'm into going on walks, foraging and hoping to start fishing this year, but I probably won't have time to camp this year. Which is a bummer. What's your fave stuff to do outdoors?

Mostly just being there, so walks. I live in a big city so it's somewhat hard to get anyplace really away from things, but even just - there is a ravine park very near me and I walked over there yesterday morning and heard tons of red winged blackbirds and saw a huge patch of blue flowers (scilla, I think). My family do own a cabin jointly but it's a long ways away. Up there I am happy just to veg out but also do a little canoeing or hiking. There are one or two berry patches that produce the tiniest of fruit. My cousins really like to pick mushrooms but I've never really gotten actively involved in it. It's wonderful up there because it's a good distance from any road so you get away from engine sounds.

Although I wasn't specific about other stuff I like, I could list a few...

Books
Terry Pratchett's funny Discworld fantasy books.
Steven Brust's "Vlad Taltos" series... this is very long, about a human assassin in an empire of elves, with a snarky flying lizard pet/sidekick. Well, Vlad is pretty snarky too.
Martha Wells' "Murderbot" science fiction series. This is coming to Apple TV soon!

TV/Movies
I kinda can't believe I did this, but I watched through all of this ancient wild west TV show called "Have Gun, Will Travel" about a high-paid but highly ethical gunslinger
I'm sort of a fan of Star Wars but... a lot of it is bad? I really loved Andor S1 and look forward to watching S2.
Right now I'm rewatching an old mystery series called Nero Wolfe from about 2000, which is set in the 1950s. What's fun about it is you have your mastermind character (Nero Wolfe) and then more like the private investigator (Archie Goodwin) who can flirt with the women and get shot at and stuff. The two don't always get along so there's snark and friction between them.
Lots of old Hong Kong action films. I recommend "Once a Thief" to fellow Lupin fans.

But it's only Lupin III where I've got a Yuji Ohno soundtrack collection and also have some DVDs (some old Part 2 discs and two boxed sets of specials) and a couple of enamel pins and...

Welcome to the club, glad to have ya! It's nice to be reminded of just how many different ways to get into Lupin there are - while I'm not a huge fan of the phrase "I liked it before it was cool" you literally did with Lupin :loop_laugh: I loved reading your thoughts on your fave parts and movies (Prison of the Past is one I haven't seen yet so thanks for the recommendation) - out of curiosity do you have a favourite character?

Oh cool! You'll probably have to, you know, pirate it :D

What prompted me to dig back in was actually a fantasy novel by Robert Jackson Bennett called "The Tainted Cup". It's actually kind of a fantasy pastiche of Wolfe+Archie, although the characters are very different. The "Nero Wolfe" character stays away from everyday life for fear of being overwhelmed by stimuli. But when she gets going on a murder, she's just kind of ferocious and I love it. The "Archie Goodwin" character has some secrets of his own.

Thank you Kat!! Idk, I think Lupin was cool even then. What I love about Lupin stories is how it feels like anything is possible. If he sends a card in advance of a robbery... he's going to rob it, no matter what. When he makes a promise to Clarisse in Castle of Cagliostro, it's gonna happen. Or he's gonna steal that Statue of Liberty... with a balloon! lol

Favorite character... I mean, overall, I guess it's Jigen. It'd be Lupin if he wasn't such a damn lech! smh

I'm kind of new to this forum, but welcome! Glad to meet you! I guess it's never too late to be a Lupin fan no matter how old you are, haha! It's amazing how timeless the series is and can be enjoyed by people young and old. Btw, since you've watched 2 and 3. You have any favorite episodes?

Ooh, good question. There are so many episodes in part 2 that I'd have to look at a list... oh yeah wait I have that big book, I can use that.

Part 3 is weirdly interesting because of how varied it is. For pure comedy, I thought episode 44 (Our Daddy Is a Thief) was really well done. For a more serious episode, 30 (The Name of the Cocktail is Revenge), maybe.

In Part 2... oh, I have to say I actually liked the two kabuki episodes, eps 55-56, for doing something different. Also 58, the one in which Jigen has to escort a Russian ballerina out of the country. 134, Operation: Arrest Lupin at the Peak, I liked that one.

Where things got too silly for me: 124 (1999: A Popcorn Odyssey), and 152 (Jigen, a Hat, and a Pistol). I know the Jigen hat episode was playing it for laughs to show Jigen in different hats, but... it's JIGEN. I refuse to believe he couldn't shoot straight without his hat.

Well I'm playing with some people I met through a local Toronto discord server. It's the first gaming group I've been in, in a while... So I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Most of the players are very new and the DM isnt the most skilled BUT everyone is doing their best and they're good people. We bring a lot of snacks and basically have lunch while playing.

Our party just recently killed Nox, a necromancer that was threatening the city , but we also learned that he was serving worse possibly demonic masters. So we're heading to a town where a plot is unfolding or is possibly already overrun. A town we were in before was actually destroyed by forces Nox unleashed, collapsing a ways underground.

I am playing Percy, a human noble bladesinger. He's a pretty straight arrow but he's terrible at bargaining and sometimes should keep his mouth shut and doesn't. I've picked a lot of combat spells, too many probably, but he's also got Detect Magic and Identify and his most recent spells are Counterspell and Fly.

I'm painting a mini for him and that's coming along well. No fancy shading or anything, I'm just happy that I managed to paint his jacket and the lace on it separately, for instance.
