Grandpa Arsène's Bookclub

HI EVERYONE!
Here we are, for the first edition of our Bookclub reading!
Before presenting the first book, I would like to explain what we'll do here :kar_jigen:

Once per month I'll be presenting a new Arsène Lupin book, sharing informations on it and giving you links to either read it or listen to it as an audiobook!
The goal would be to discover the Classic Arsène Lupin litterature, and talk about each book afterward, like a real bookclub haha

Depending on the book, how long it is, whether it's short-story based or not, I'll suggest a certain amount of time to read it! BUT if you need more time don't worry, you can also read it on your own account and discuss it later (or not, if you're not into that haha)

If you have questions, please don't hesitate :D

Hi everyone! I can't wait to share this first book with you :D

For the month of February, we'll discuss... The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Burglar! (Or, as the french say, Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Cambrioleur)

This is the first ever Arsène Lupin book written by Maurice Leblanc in 1905! It's interesting to note that this volume is an arrangement of 9 short stories:
- The Arrest of Arsène Lupin
- Arsène Lupin in Prison
- The Escape of Arsène Lupin
- The Mysterious Traveller
- The Queen's Necklace
- The Seven of Hearts
- Madame Imbert's Safe
- The Black Pearl
- Herlock Sholmes Arrives Too Late

For this first session, I propose that we read the three first short stories, so The Arrest of Arsène Lupin, Arsène Lupin in Prison, and The Escape of Arsène Lupin!
And to start of slow and test the waters, we could take all of February for it! Of course, if everyone's read their chapters way before the end of February we'll discuss them sooner and read the rest :D

Here are a few resources to read/listen to these chapters!
- Project Gutenberg to read it either online or download it as plain text or Kindle format!
- LibriVox1, 2 or 3 to listen to it as an Audiobook! I found 3 different versions with different narrators, so go for the one you like the most :D

As always, if you have any questions, I'm all ears!
And there's only one last thing for me to say...
Have a good reading :kar_jigen:

Hi Everyooone! Just checking in, since we're hitting the end of February!
How are you all doing with your reading/listening?
Should we take a bit more time to read this one and talk about it?

I'll be honest and say I've already read a few of these books, including this one. I just really wanna see what other people have to say about them, especially since so few Lupin III fans have actually read the original books. Being obsessed with a book series that's over a century old has its downsides 😞

I've read the first 5 books and I was also hoping for some discussion from people who are naive to the stories (LOL) but I'll whip out my copy of the book and start on my essay with citations about why I think LupinxGanimard is canon if you give me the weekend :loop_laugh:

I started but didn't get very far because I got distracted with other things, I could probably finish the first three chapters by tomorrow or the day after though.

Yeah this month was crazy and I had almost no free time so I didn't manage to read anything :( Don't mind me though, I don't think I'll have time before weekend.

To be honest I also had no time this month to read haha, that's why I asked if anyone else needed more time!
How much time would you need to also read the three first chapters Tintalle?

And no worries, we have all the time in the world so no stress :D

I feel you! I've already read a lot of them (in french tho, so this bookclub is an opportunity to read them in english haha) but it would be so interesting to have new people react to it!
