I finally watched Another Page and it feels like more of a tossup to me.
On the one hand, it's got some weirdly drawn eyes again and eyes that are set too far apart. Was this animated by the same studio that does Detective Conan? Anyway some of the characters look weird - but it's not entirely consistent!! Which is even odder.
Evil arms dealer is par for the course but it's kind of a trope I am good with. "Evil arms dealers" even came up as villains in 1920s/30s stories rather than picking politically based villains, plus the lingering horror of WW1.
Zenigata is a little more competent here, at least he's not a complete joke I think. He puts a bug on someone, even! I don't think I've ever seen him do that before!
I liked how Goemon got a bunch of screen time with the priest and his family. You could just tell that it was going to link up with the main plot eventually. I did have to search for some of the names of Japanese historical figures mentioned in the show as I didn't know them. Also the family trying to set him up with Hiromi was funny.
Lupin maintaining the lie of "I'm with the LCPO" for so long was kind of funny and a bit less benign than your standard positive Lupin. I liked, when his lie was revealed, that he told Lisa to make up her mind for herself. That's very much in the "freedom to do what I want" Lupin ethos.
Oh and HEY, LOOK, Jigen has a soft spot in this one.
But then at the end .... eh, I don't know, somehow the ending just felt bad quality, even if I can't put my finger on it right now. The priest blowing Goemon up to the flying machine was kind of out of left field. And that's even before you get to the post-credit sequence with Goemon destroying the satellite with his sword.
PS just occurred to me that there is a Duke of a country mentioned ... and he seemed at one point like he was calling the shots, BUT he never appears after all.
Oh well, might watch this one again someday. Long before I give Princess of the Breeze another try.
