Anyone want to share their experiences of engaging with a non-Lupin work (movies, books, songs, etc.) and thinking, "Hmm, getting a lot of Lupin vibes from this one?" Or vice-versa?

Personally, some of the Jigen scenes in The Mystery of Mamo slapped me in the face with the entire third part of Richard Siken's Crush for some reason, specifically these four poems:

I know the Disney movie The Great Mouse Detective (Sherlock Holmes but mice) has a clock tower scene directly inspired by Cagliostro, and on a recent rewatch I was amused to notice a few other little nods too (for instance, mouse Holmes, whose name is Basil, does exactly the uncertain being-hugged-by-a-little-girl hands thing at one point that Lupin does with Clarisse near the end of the movie).

I'm absolutely delighted that someone else made the connection!! His poems about two guys in a car with bullet wounds and feelings that must not be spoken or named between them have such Big Jigen Energy!

So far, I've mostly been drawing connections to Lupin via unrelated music! I have a playlist that has a lot of the songs in question in it, along with some of Yuji Ohno's actual compositions for the franchise.

Looking forward to giving this a listen!

Back in 2020 it was common to retweet a Richard Silken bot and tag with Jigen :loop_laugh: we talked about Intricate Rituals for sure haha

For me much of Rufus Wainwright’s music is a strong Jigen association, many of my fic titles with Jigen are from his songs lol

I would say one more thing that reminds me a lot of Lupin is Austin Powers. I think they’re both “descended” from James Bond but taken into the realm of comedy, Lupin and Austin have a lot in common haha

This is really obscure, but the Swedish animated works of Kalle Stropp och Grodan Boll (based on Radio show back in the 1950s) definitely has the Lupin vibes in terms of great animation, thrilling scenes, and memorable characters. There's a 30 min short called Kalle Stropp och Grodan Boll räddar Hönan (Eng: Kalle Stropp och Grodan Boll save Hen) and a movie that came out later called Kalle Stropp och Grodan Boll på svindlande äventyr (Charlie Strapp and Froggy Ball Flying High, this one was actually dubbed into English). I definitely saw the short a lot when I was a kid since my family had taped it onto a VHS. The short's story is that very basic, but both the car chase and the boat rescue at the end is great. I don't think it's easy to find either movies outside of Scandinavia, but they are still worth checking out even if you don't speak Swedish imo.
Here's a short clip just a get a feel:

There’s a movie called “Red Notice” that’s very Lupin-esque. Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot play the main leads and their characters reminded me a lot of Lupin, Zenigata, and Fujiko. Ryan even dons a red jacket in the opening scene.
